PEACE RETURNS TO BENDE COMMUNITIES AS BOUNDARY MINISTRY FLAGS OF BOUNDARY DEMARCATION

An atmosphere of peace currently pervades the communities of Umuenyere Alayi and Okoko item as the state ministry of Boundary and Conflict Resolution has stepped in to adjudicate over an age long boundary dispute between the two communities.

Speaking during the event yesterday, Hon. Commissioner for Boundary and Conflicts Resolution, Chief Imo Mascot Obike thanked the two communities for embracing peace and heeding to the call made by the ministry to amicably settle the dispute which according to him is the vision and dreams of the Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu led administration to ensure that communities in the state coexist without any rancour.

According to him ” it is only in an atmosphere of peace that any meaningful development can be achieved.”

Also speaking the Transition Chairman of Bende Local Government Hon. Chief P. C Onyegbu admonished the two communities to continue to be brothers and eschew anything that will reverse the peace which has returned to the two communities and advised them that disputes shouldn’t arise between them because they are brothers.

High point of the event is the speech by the Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, who also doubles as the Chairman Abia State Boundary Committee.

In his words, the Abia Deputy Governor urged the two communities to continue in their support for the administration of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu who has demonstrated passion for the people through various policies aimed at restoring peace and upgrading the infrastructure of the state.

He further charged the Technical Committee, to expedite action on the boundary demarcation so that the dispute and the rancour it has generated will become a thing of the past.

Dignitaries who grace the occasion include the Deputy Governor of Abia state and his retinue of aides, The Honourable commissioner for Boundary and Conflict Resolution, The Transition Chairman Bende Local Government Area, The Surveyor General of the State, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Boundary Matters, The Chief Librarian Abia State University, Prof Udo Nwokocha, Chief Okenwa Ichie, Elder S. C Iheke, among others.
