The reliance on poor funding peddled by the General manager of Abia state environmental protection agency – ASEPA as an excuse for his inability to perform his duties have all been refuted by his predecessors.
Mr. Victor Apugo through Ibe Vincent Ogbonnaya yesterday through his facebook handle alleged that the agency under Rt. Hon Cosmos Ndukwe, was receiving a whooping sum of N200M and above as monthly subvention, while the during the time of Hon Martins Apugo(his elder), the subvention came to about 66/70 million naira monthly. And under Hon Victor Apugo it dropped to N22M till date.
But in a swift reaction, his predecessors, Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe and his own elder brother, Hon. Martins Apugo have both debunked the information as lies.
According to Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe, ASEPA under him got a total of N20m as subvention monthly and that catered for Aba and Umuahia, which is less than what Apugo gets just for Umuahia alone.
Reeling out his achievements, Cosmos said: “I served the agency for whooping 7years, on subvention not exceeding N6.5M and N13.5M respectively for the two zones (Aba and Umuahia) under my command as GM.
Rt. Hon. Ndukwe challenged the ASEPA GM to produce evidence of the N200M he claimed ASEPA received under him as GM.
Also reacting, Hon. Martins Apugo, who actually took over from Cosmos Ndukwe and currently a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress APC, in a release personally signed by him said the figures of monthly subvention he was receiving during his regime released by Ibe Vincent Ogbonnaya was false.
He said after ASEPA Aba zone was carved out he was receiving 22 million naira not 66/70 million from the administration of former Governor T.A Orji, and also the period he served under the administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
According to him, the same N22M Hon Victor Apugo claimed he is receiving was the same amount he was receiving as ASEPA GM after Aba zone was carved out.
These two rebuttals has definitely put a question mark on the integrity of the current ASEPA GM.
The attempt to hoodwink the public by peddling lies, distorting figures is rather unbecoming of a public servant.
One wonders what the ASEPA GM set out to achieve by distorting the truth.
Recall that Apugo was recently summoned to the State House of assembly to explain why his agency has colossally failed to keep Umuahia clean.
