It is a dream come true for the people of Amoji Imenyi in Bende Local Government Area as the bridge connecting them with the rest of the of the local government which collapsed several years ago is about to be reconstructed by the Local Government under the Chairmanship of Hon. Chief P. C Onyegbu.
Few months ago, the social media was awash with a picture of Amoji Imenyi people carrying the corpse of one of their dead on their heads, wading through the river as there was no bridge to cross.
The transition chairman, Hon. Onyegbu moved by their plight made an on the spot assessment to the bridge and promised that the local government will reconstruct the bridge.
True to his promise, work commenced yesterday on the bridge as excavators where seen clearing the site.
Speaking to AbiaPulseNews, the contractor handling the project said ” we have been mobilized over a month ago, but the constant rain and the access road from Akoli to this place made it impossible for us to start immediately.”
He further stated “as you can see, we are here now and we won’t leave site until we are done.”
Asked when the job is likely be completed, the Engr. said, “in a couple of months we are out of here… ”
Recall that the Transition chairman had also reconstructed the Eme Nkpa Bridge with Metal plates with a firm promise to construct a concrete bridge to replace the colonial bridge that leads into Nkpa, one of the biggest communities in Bende Local government area.
