IgbereTV Honours One of Nigeria’s Foremost Designer


IgbereTV, an online media platform has bestowed the 2019 Interior Designer of the Year Award to one of Nigeria’s foremost interior designer, Ohiri O Lewis.

In an elaborate ceremony held at the Sheraton hotel and Towers Abuja on Thursday, the organisers of the event said they singled out Ohiri for this grand honour because of the uniqueness he has brought to interior design industry in the country.

Presenting the award to him, the former Inspector General of Police,IGP, Mike Okiro said he had known Ohiri even when he was a commissioner of Police in Lagos. He described him as “someone who has taken interior design to another level not only in Nigeria, but around the world.”

While receiving the prestigious award, a visibly elated Ohiri said “indeed hardwork pays.” According to him, the award was in recognition of many years of hard work and perseverance even in the face of daunting odds.

He thanked God who according to him made the recognition possible and advised both the parents and government to look into reviving the technical colleges for better skills for the upcoming ones.

“In all we do, skill is the ultimate. We need to retool the next generation of Nigerians with the requisite skills to face a more competitive world instead our emphasis on paper qualifications.

“Governments at all levels must as a matter of policy look at reviving the technical colleges to equip students with the right skills. I strongly believe that with the right skills and and enabling environment, Nigeria can rule the world in area of manufacturing.

“I am a perfect example. Without the right skills, I wouldn’t be the designer of international repute that I am today.


“We are open to partnering with both the government and private individuals in transfering this skill and knowledge to the next generation,” he said.

He thanked the organisers of the event for the recognition and pledged not to rest on his oars.

Some of the numerous design works of Ohiri include, the Sam Mbakwe expanded executive chamber, Government House Owerri, the ongoing international conference center in Umuahia, Abia state and many more.

He has also trained over 500 men and women in interior decoration in Nigeria who are all making waves in the Industry.
