Danger Averted In Isingwu Ward, Umuahia North LGA, As Angry Youths Protest Against Alleged Attempts To Swap Their Ward Congress List

What would have best been described as a blood bath was today averted as rampaging youths of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Isingwu ward in Ohuhu, Umuahia north local government area of Abia state took over the community protesting against alleged attempts by some individuals in their ward to substitute the list of their ward congress held last Saturday.

They were today, Monday, March 16, 2020 seen caring placards of various inscription in a peaceful demonstration chanting songs against the dictatorship attitude displayed by their aged and top ranking ward leaders.

Speaking with Abia Pulse Newsonline crew at Isingwu was Chief Chigbo Okeahialam, an executive member of the party. He said: “we say no to imposition. Our leaders, mostly Chief Ebisike Okengwu and Ugochukwu Ezeocha, have concluded to go into their houses and bring a list of names that are not even party members, people who have not even worked for the party and we say no to such imposition.

“Those names written in their comfort zones are meant to be the executives of Isingwu, we say no to that. We usually select such people through our party’ congress. The congress was done a day before yesterday, people came out, and people were elected and no one should change that overall will of the people.”

Hon. Achilefu Onyegbule the ward Councillor also added that the crisis they are having in Isingwu is that the people that said they are the stake holders of this party want to dismay them or put us aside.

“An opportunity was given to Chief Ebisike to go and resolve with his people. Ohuhu leaders like Chief Empire Kanu, Our house of Assembly member, Hon. Kelechi Onuzuruike, The Commissioner for Finance Dr. Aham Uko, all asked them to go and resolve with their people, but they didn’t listen, rather he wants to thwart the will of the people who gathered and conducted a congress. So what am pleading is that nobody should go to anywhere to withdraw any list of Isingwu, unless they want Isingwu to face calamity politically.

The congress we are talking about should be a collective thing not a personal thing. What we want is that they should call the stakeholders to other so that PDP will not face extinction in Isingwu Ward.” Hon. Achilefu Onyegbule concluded.

Other members of  Isingwu ward also expressed their grievances regarding the dictatorship of the so called party leaders.

“As a political party in Isingwu, the youths has not been carried along, generally speaking it has not been so. We want the elders to come back to their drawing board, we want this Ward to be peaceful. Since 2011, PDP has been finding things hard in our ward. The problem is not that PDP is not doing the things they are supposed to do but they have been channeling their effortswrongly. We want equity and fairness, leadership is a plural thing. A true leader will say ”we decided”  “we decided” not  “I said” Nwokoro Ngwu added.

Hon. Dan Sunday, S.A to the governor of Abia state also lent his voice towards the essence of the protest when he said. “We are on congress, about two or three people will go inside their house and write names on behalf of Isingwu people and impose them on us and say nothing will happen. So we are here in the home of our commissioner to register our grievance and send him to the state and the party to inform them they we are waiting to see how they will handle this matter”

Chief Ebisike and Ugochukwu Ezeocha among others were said to be among the dictators of the party.

Addressing the rampaging Youths who came calling at his country home, Hon. Hope Uwaga, a commissioner with Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission thanked them for the peaceful way they have comported themselves so far enjoined them to remain calm and wait for him to interface with the Party leaders at the state level and assured them that the party will not joke with the interest of the youths and women of the ward.
