The Abia State waste management committee for ohuhu zone today commenced Intervention across all the refuse disposal points in ohuhu land.
The mountains of refuse along the express road close to the NNPC mega station, to Nkwoegwu Market on to Umuawa Alaocha and the state CID have all been cleared.
Speaking to Newsmen on his first day on site, the chairman of ASEPA waste management committee for ohuhu zone Mr Uche Aguoru stated that it is not going to be business as usual as residents hitherto dumped their refuse indiscriminately.
According to him :
We are going to be embarking on a lot of sensitization, even to secondary schools because it is students within that age bracket who usually come to dump these refuse we see…we will definitely get it right and we have appealed to government to assist us with refuse disposal buckets, so that our people don’t have to dump their refuse on the ground. As you can see, we don’t even have even one bucket, but I trust the man who sent us, he will equip us to deliver.
He further thanked members of his team who put in their best for the intervention work to be a success and urged the residents to be responsible citizens by shunning indiscriminate disposal of refuse to avoid a clash with relevant task forces and enforcement agents.
