A delegation from the Abia North unity group, the foremost sociopolitical pressure group in the zone yesterday visited the Abia State House of assembly.
The group whose sole aim is to ensure that the Abia Charter of equity is not truncated, especially in 2023 where power is expected to rightfully return to Abia north was in the state assembly to interface with legislators from the zone and also to invite them to the dedication and unveiling of the Abia North Unity House on Thursday 25th Feb. 2021, located at 197 Arochukwu Road, Elu Ohafia.
The delegation was received by the Deputy Speaker Abia State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu and all the members from Abia North Extraction in the state assembly. According to the leader of the delegation, Barr James Okpara, the mission of the group is simple “to invite our spokespersons in the state legislature to the dedication of our office and to formally inform you of our existence and agenda.”
Speaking during the interaction, a former leader of Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Chief P.C Onyegbu maintained that it is time for all the sons and daughters of the zone, irrespective of political party to come together and speak with one voice, so that no one or group will succeed in truncating the Charter of Equity.
On his part, former Chief of Staff to the Governor Mazi Donatus Okorie expressed shock at the activities of some desperate politicians who wish to change the goal post in the middle of the game even when they are privy to not just the Charter of Equity but several meetings that held in 2015/19 to ensure power rotated to the south and the agreements that followed.
Responding, the member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency Hon. Emeka Okoroafor, charged the group to ensure equitable representation across party lines and pledged his support for the group.
For the member representing Bende North State Constituency, Hon Chijioke Chukwu who is so passionate about the agenda, maintained that mission of the group is in tandem with his own convictions and pledged his total support.
The member Representing Bende South state constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Ndubuisi expressed his happiness that the group is breaking new grounds and also mentioned that he had been a long standing member of the group and as such his support is given.
Hon. Abraham Oba, the member representing Aba Central state Constituency advised the group to ensure that their presence in felt in all the local governments in the zone in order to create the needed awareness.
Concluding the deputy speaker thanked the delegation for rising to the occasion and promised that they will honour the invitation as the agenda is a common and shared vision.
